Also, we have a ton of space on Earth... Why not do it here and be more cost affective.. and also minimize the risk?

I doubt it would have any added gravitational effect (tides, tilt, etc). I think the logic is that a lot more energy hits the surface of the moon because it has no atmosphere, but I agree we should be having solar panels everywhere here on earth.

Maybe all those billionaires buying up land in the west and midwest are going to lease it back to our government to use for large solar panel farms


I don't think solar panels on the moon would work that well as the light it reflects would hit us on Earth causing some "global warming" and it may be so bright that its blinding.

The production of solar panels comes with a cost too. They are still made from raw materials mined in an exploitative manner with a production process that is far from environmentally friendly.
