Can't listen right now, but did they say anything about sharking J Dilla whole shyt with that song? Dilla said he and Tip didn't get the production credit they were supposed to. And there's no denying that song is 100% Dilla's sound. That's why I love Jay Dee's revenge version, he just turned up the Dillaness even more.

He broke down how he came up with the different parts of the song in detail. Credited dilla for inspiration.

He basically made a "dilla type beat"

Title track (Velvet Rope) is intense too. I love how the spoken word intro goes right into that cut. Sets the mood for what’s to come within the album.

Liars. Everyone knows that was Dilla's and Tip's beat and they never got credited for it.

They aren't lying. If I'm not mistaken, the Dilla's Revenge version is the original. They didn't shark anything. They recreated the beat and acknowledged Dilla as inspiration.

You know what. I've always respected Janet as an artist. Liked the songs, but never peeped a full Janet album. I listened to some of the songs from this album that I hadn't heard before. Copped.

I go back and forth between this and Rhythm Nation as my favorite Janet albums. Rhythm Nation had catchier songs but Velvet Rope had more mature/complex themes and better songwriting. Also very influential on the current R&B scene as another poster mentioned. She fell off like crazy after VR but her 4-album run from 86 to 97 is legendary and she’s still my favorite female artist because of it

This was a really good review that just dropped. I hope VR starts getting more recognition as a true classic
