when i moved to North America I was 13 and a man where I came from there was no such thing as teenagers, same for most human cultures. I could distinctly tell people here were delayed in maturity by society..
it actually has a psychological effect you can observe in society. people in the past didn't just seem older they were more mature mentally because the world expected them to be and held them to that standard. subtle things like even looking at the amount of literature for "young adults" or teen specific. That didn't exist where I came from. you read whatever you could comprehend at any level as young as you were. hell my first summer in Canada at 14 I was legit dating a chick in first year of college, working a job and hanging out mostly with College kids in the summer. I'd go back to high school in the fall and it would feel like I was an actor on 21 jump street playing a teen lol
a lot of the posters on the coli who are genuinely confused by the fact that teenage girls used to date older and it was common are definitely born in the mid to late 90's or 2000's
