I just caught this today.

This movie was a big budget version of those mid to late 90's straight to video films that you would see every thursday night on HBO when they would premier shyt like Wishmaster, The Dentist, The Substitute 2. etc The bad acting, the music, everything about it reminded of those movies.

This movie was a chore to sit through up until that last 20 minutes when the twist is revealed, it completely energizes the movie.

It was aiight on first viewing I can see myself catching this a few more times and it growing on me.

This was a terrible movie that was tonally inconsistent, veering between camp and serious horror. I never once found it scary, each scare telegraphed before it happened. The twist was inventive, I’ll admit, but the plot holes that made it possible were too large to ignore.

That scene in the jail when she was assaulted by the other inmates was :mjpls:

Holy shyt! I was not expecting any of that. What a great surprise. I just wrote this off as another cheap horror film and avoided it. I didn't know Wan was associated with it. So tonight when I went to see AMC's surprise thrills and chills feature, I had no idea what I was getting into. I really, really enjoyed this. The cell scene was so awesome. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that in a horror movie. What a weirdly satisfying and refreshing original flick.

That’s so dope. I need to attend one of those AMC screenings. A lot of gems I’ve missed out on the big screen due to either being too young at the time or simply sleeping on them.

I don’t know how far back they go, but if they could surprise me with Dead Silence.. :ohlawd:

Definitely check them out. The last one before this was The Thing and that was really great to see on the big screen.

Saw that restored to 4K on the big screen a couple years ago. So much fun. Glad you liked this tho. Need more flicks like Malignant.

I kept seeing this get referenced in the Barbarian thread

Think it probably went over my head, I don’t remember this dropping

An indie theater here in Chicago is doing their annual wave of horror flicks for October, and I believe they’re showing this, so I’ll try and catch it if I can (ol Tom Hanks face ass)
