Christopher Columbus thought he reached India when he arrived in the Caribbean. That's why its called the West Indies.

Indians were brought over to the Caribbean in the mid 1800's to early 1900's to work on plantations after slavery was abolished.

Indians arrived in the Caribbean a full 300 years after Christopher Columbus.
