This came up on my YouTube a while ago and was fascinating. You don't really hear this modern nasaly accent develop until the 00's and has exploded now.

This accent is genuinely an interesting phenomena. It seems like it got created in a very unique circumstance in a VERY VERY small area, and a lot of Gen Z Canadians are hopping on it in the wake of Canada's oversized role in in 2010's pop culture globally.

I think a comparison would be people throughout England trying to speak with that cockney accent and now the because it's supposed to be latest and edgiest street accent. Same thing happening now with "MLE" or wherever.

Large swaths of kids with no real direct pop cultural representation latching into the thing some of the "cool" kids are doing.

What's different here is outside of the bubble of they accent, it is universally despised :dead:

I think a lot of Canadians youts gonna make fun of themselves for this shyt in a few years.

At the same time - there really is no base black culture in the UK/Canada. Those accents will continue to sound more and more like the immigrants coming into the country because creating a culture where there was only white people before them. Who knows what this accent will continue morphing into

i left high school in 00's i remember the waste yutes right behind me had already started exaggerating the fukk out of the accentl, I was in scarborough. We used to laugh at the shyt. same dusty fellows who laid the blueprint for Toronto streets scene today. we didn't respect it then or now. yes it's exactly like making cockney accent represent for England. And you right on another count. The spotlight Drake put on Toronto contributed to this. He himself in a bid to align with the streets adapted to the goofy subset of culture that these waste yute proliferate. It's a smack to the face of most Black Canadians what Drake chose to align himself with an uplift as our representation. that was when I lost respect for dude.

It is lame. That shyt didn't even exist 10 years ago.
it did but you had to be amongst the dustiest rejects to hear it.

dudes used to call alcohol juice, they'd say "beat a juice" meaning to drink.... I seen a young dude trying to order from a bar one day and he kept asking for a juice and the server was bewildered. dude wanted an alcoholic drink pointing at the shyt ... they expected shyt slang to be universal. fish out of water moment. :skip:

I remember that. Dudes talking about "seen" , and I'm like "seen what? :lupe:"...Lots of Jamaican slang, but now they've co opted some of the British slang, and inflection which comes off lame and forced.

If you're American, you can probably eat in Toronto.

If you're normal you can. A lot of American dudes go up there and act like idiots because they think being American is the only thing that matters. Like my boy its Toronto, not Thailand.
