turn based games are successful within their spaces plenty. if you've got a card game, it makes no sense to slap on all the costs with animations and generally above average production associated with a different kind of game entirely.
there's a reason why most card games are mobile, 2d, packaged in with other titles, etc - because they will *not* be profitable within the same framework of a substantially larger project. darkest dungeon would also be 'unsuccessful' if it had a whole suite of environments and assets befitting even a low-budget souls-like.
having a good product with the wrong business model is not some new shyt. its a simple thing to assess. so is developers getting paid for something they know will likely not succeed in a relevant manner lol. and any kind of confusion regarding it just shows that gaming industry coverage is objectively goofy as hell.
