Well then people can’t complain about “ubisoft” style games taking over (or AAA being stagnant) if they’re unwilling to give anything else a chance to succeed.
.....what kind of tangent is that lol.

turn based games are successful within their spaces plenty. if you've got a card game, it makes no sense to slap on all the costs with animations and generally above average production associated with a different kind of game entirely.

there's a reason why most card games are mobile, 2d, packaged in with other titles, etc - because they will *not* be profitable within the same framework of a substantially larger project. darkest dungeon would also be 'unsuccessful' if it had a whole suite of environments and assets befitting even a low-budget souls-like.

having a good product with the wrong business model is not some new shyt. its a simple thing to assess. so is developers getting paid for something they know will likely not succeed in a relevant manner lol. and any kind of confusion regarding it just shows that gaming industry coverage is objectively goofy as hell.

I felt the same way completely until one of my friends who also felt the same way ended up getting it and loving it. Then I bought it and it’s prob my 2022 GOTY. Still don’t like the idea of card games lol but it works really well in that game.
I mean that is the case with any game that is out there, but i do not have time to play every game. This was really a bad move if they were expecting big sale numbers.

Oh, this nikka spittin'. :wow:

The bolded is really all the explanation needed. Midnight Sons was a textbook case of a good product being made for the wrong audience, using the wrong property. Your game can be well made, and review amazingly, but if it's not a product that the people want, it just doesn't matter. There's a reason that "Who is this for," is one of the first questions asked in both product development AND marketing.

They just completely misjudged it thinking that the Firaxis and Marvel would do enough heavy lifting for them to get the card based gameplay off.

But how did they drop the ball when the game is good and reviewed well?

Bruh, when ppl think about playing with their favorite super heroes, it's in the instance of action, fast paced combat that the end user gets to engage and enjoy like they are actually controlling and utilizing the greatness of their favorite comic book characters. That's why MUA, Xmen Legends and the Sony Spidey games have such huge fan love and acclaim across the board.

Most comic book fans aren't really trying to do turn based moves with their favorite heroes. :comeon:

to go further, where the problem came from isn't a stretch either lol

marvel undoubtedly focused on the money fountain and specifically the cross-brand exposure that nba 2k, madden, fifa card shenanigans enjoys. and started to explore the relationship/production from the wrong viewpoint entirely.

i 100% enjoyed the game, but you can definitely still feel how the game is off-center throughout. feels like it had another monetization system in mind from the start and they shifted gears at some point. pve and pvp marketplaces have to be managed in drastically different ways or you get sued to oblivion, immediately put off your *main* audience, or fragment the community you're trying to build instead of building one that self promotes.

Overall Marvel has dropped the ball with damn near every Console Game they've tried since Disney took over :snoop:
Facts

Plus there were a lot of people like myself who were interested in the game but that card mechanic is a real turnoff and it’s probably a decent game but I’ll probably never know :yeshrug:

If midnight sons just used regular old look classic super heros and villains it would have been fine.

Or if this was some weird doctor strange game

But taking a bunch of heros and turning it all Into magic welding all black costuming wearing versions of themselves was a L out the gate.
