This is what's hurting the social media generation. People consider "just trying" is more than enough. I can only imagine how things are going to be in 10 or 15 years. Probably why we have so many sexually frustrated dudes shooting up the place.

Whether or not you consider yourself a mean person depends on how much emphasis you put on other people's opinions and judgement when stacked against your own self critique.
What does your opinion of yourself weigh? 5 outside opinions? 10? If 3 people called you mean, would that be enough to alter your own perception of yourself? Do you operate under a utilitarian ethical mindset when it comes to determining your own moral right? Empirical numbers vs Empirical numbers and nothing more? Does the fact that your "mean" statements maintain consistent veracity help to tip the scales in your favor?
One must also take into account the half-life of emotions. 3 people expressing the same critique to you in the span of 5 minutes creates a much more lasting impact than those same 3 people expressing the same critique over a span a 5 years.
And then you must also consider what falls under the purview of absolute personal truths. If 100 people questioned your sexuality, would that cause you to question it? No, because this is an absolute personal truth, you feel that it is rooted in your identity and is not subject to change based on another's opinions. If you feel that no matter how obstinate and uncompromising your disposition to others is, you are not a mean person...
