Absolutely JFK felt the same way; you can see it in the way he was dragging his feet on anything that had to do with civil rights. Faux it was. The Kennedy's did their best to try to mimic WASP culture.

Similar to how Ralph Lipschitz tries to mimic the WASP lifestyle with his clothing line.

It was a form of assimilation, similar to how immigrants try to demonstrate their "goodness" to white people by assimilating and adopting the "american dream" - education, nest egg, house with white picket fence, 3.5 kids with a dog.

But the Kennedy's were notable for the actual fact that their elections, first to senate seats, then to the presidency, marked the beginning of the decline of WASP dominance on american society. They were heralded as "change" similar to how Obama was welcomed as "change".
