I was never a J. Cole fan and the album was boring to me after the first listen. But I'm giving his whole discography another chance on the strength of his Letterman performance of "Be Free", gotta salute him for that.

I bought the homie's album off the strength of alot of the things of see him do over the last few months and fact I think he can rap. I like a few of his last joints, just not the biggest fan. Just finished a first listen of the record and, first of all, I can tell he put work into it.
If this is the best this generation got to offer, then, I'll stick to my lil' rotation of older music and other genre.
Hip Hop us really missing competition. This sounds so dry. I'm sure it was all recorded before August, so that Mike Brown fire ain't there. I hear him droppin' a few social comments--that's the reason (kinda) I kinda bought--but, it's like whatever. I give em love for gettin on the ground (Ferguson).
Even the "competition" is like ":troll: Nah, breh, we all the kings." He couldn't even really sit on that Eminem/Macklemore without the "I'm just playing."
Look, it's okay. But...yea, it's okay.

I dont think he wants to be jayz tho, everybody dont need to go down the same route, and the route he choosing is working pretty good for him. and I doubt jayz mentors him on some real shyt, jay not hands on with these artist, he gives them the tools and it up to them to build wit it.
Pretty much. Cole has the problem of people wanting him to be great, and when he makes just good music...they leave disappointed. If Big Sean dropped this..:lawd:

I like the album...it is not TBA or anything but it is good.

This album is so struggle and cringeworthy.
Songs about losing your virginity. I guess im getting to old for these remedial topics.

This guy need not ever try to harmonize another day of his life. So struggle. Makes me want to skip the song So much.

Kendrick album is going to destroy this

My wife mentioned it yesterday, but I went... :ohhh: when she said it

J. Cole has morphed into Hip-Hop's Taylor Swift with all of this fan service. Not knocking it at all but looking at how he's interacting with the people/fans is comparable low key.

He should branch out and work with other producers. Part of what made his mentor Jayz such a success is he worked with all the hottest producers. J.Cole only really seems to rap over his own beats.
People have been saying this for years, it's probably not going to happen.

thought the album was dope and im feeling the movement.

But to be honest. As a Yeezy/Lupe/Gambino stan....this shyt has been done before. and I've seen it done better.

It just had the feel of a watered down BTI to me. nikkas stay jockin my GOATS. Bino did the App for his concert...then Drake n Weezy did one. stole the idea. Bino had nikkas come see the apartment of the kid thats talked about in the BTI album. and Cole does a concept about his old home and lets fans come see it. Bino grows the hair out and this nikka rockin the same exact cut. If he throw on short shorts its a wrap.

Actually Lupe started that dirty fro movement before the dreads. Hov attempted but couldnt take it no more..lookin like a fuzzy ass camel.

But overall ratings i'd give a 3/5.
