I have to agree. I don't know if she is still there but there was an overweight one who's gimmick was dressing up like Freddie Mercury but she looked like Captain Lou Albano playing Mario. That shyt was super cringe.

I never even noticed that the "Joshi" wrestlers are kept separate from the other women in the division until it was brought up in this thread. I think Nyla Rose is the only one that wrestles them regularly.
Maki Itoh has a catchy name and a real life story of being a failed idol who's also seemingly into piss and scat. You could build a whole Miz type character around that right there and she'd be set for a decade or so.

Add in Big Swole and Statlander as well. Hopefully they sign Thunder Rosa to the division full-time. Big part of the improvement can be due to training; think Dustin Rhodes has been doing a lot of work with them to help improve in the ring. Another part that can't be overlooked is other than Anna Jay, that division is relatively healthy for the first time in a while. Shida's long reign at the top is partially due to the amount of injuries/pandemic absences the division had.
I really don't understand the Shida hate. She got over with the live crowds and is a great in-ring performer.

I still don’t think AEW has the best female roster, but they seem to have enough chicks to actually build something around. They need to make sure to lock down Rosa once they officially can (great long term upside), and remember Tony’s seemingly interested in Thea Trinidad’s ol’ sexy Aaliyah stanning ass
Yeah I didn't mean she would be the next one in WWE necessarily, I meant she would have been the next genuinely top notch talent with the charisma, athleticism, look etc to get over as a star outside of the Joshi scene

Outside of Shida, most of them either suck in the ring OR have absolutely no charisma whatsoever that can generate a reaction from the American crowds. WWE really hit homeruns with Asuka, Kairi and Io.
Women's wrestling in general sucks. It's not just a joshis thing.
