This was the best scene of Superman III (IMO) and I was a Richard Pryor stan. Never bothered with 'Quest for Peace' since I knew I'd leave the theater like......
He wasn't 'drunk'. He was affected by some bootleg kryptonite Richard Pryor came up with made with tar because of some unknown element he couldn't figure out.
One thing I never understood about this scene... Did they both have Superman's powers or was it just a battle of wills? I mean I guess in order to bust through an industrial hydraulic press and choke out superman you've gotta have super strength but Clark was fighting like a bytch up until the last minute so it was questionable.

The 'faux-kryptonite' split Supes' personality, but the whole fight just happened in his mind. Remember, they never went back to the junkyard to see the damage after the fight. The only way to fill that plot-hole was to leave it up to us viewers to figure out.
I will say that III while terrible compared to the original, and especially the Donner cut of Superman II is not an awful movie.
Superman IV though, I wish I could take back the viewings I have of it. I watched it the last time probably 10 years ago now and it is even worse than I remember. As for the person who said Reeve never watched it, I don't know about that, but I had always heard it was so terrible was because Reeve was in on the script and it is basically an anti-pollution movie. Make Superman into Captain Planet essentially because of Reeve's political and social beliefs.

Superman 3 is my shyt off that scene and Richard Pryor alone, its a personal favorite of mine.
All bias aside though its a terrible film, the villian is awful, the look is terrible and why do Superman movies without fail gotta go back to or include fukking Smallville?
Superman 4 is prob the worst major comic book superhero movie( Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Avengers and Xmen are major to me) , shyt was just terrible less said about it the better.
This new Superman is prob gonna crush even the first 2 Supermans quality wise, storywise. howeverits just a shame Christopher Reeve played the role so well, because dudes swear RDJ is Tony Stark...but Reeve really WAS/IS Superman/Clark Kent.
Supes 3 is pretty bad in a few parts, but there are worse flicks. The part where he's in the bar breaking glasses with peanuts and being a worldwide douche is hilarious. My nikka screams at civilians and blows out the Olympic torch
Superman IV is so horrible you have to watch it for the LOLs. His villain is a Lex Luther created Nuclear Man. There's a scene where he snatches a chick and flies into space with her. And the biggest problem she faces while in outer space with nothing on but a work dress is fear that Nuclear Man will lose his grip

wes craven directed that swamp thing POS and no, as a child i just couldnt sit through superman 1 at all, i briefly remember watching pt2 here and there, it wasnt untill the richard donner cut came out that i sat through the whole thing
I watched Superman 3 a billion times as a kid and I still don't fully understand the villains or the motives. Was that last fight supposed to be Brainaic with those rich cacs?
Richard Pryor's fukkery was but the other parts is
