Breh, this is the crux of what I have been saying and you’ve been disagreeing with. This stuff is like Rocky IV. It’s a movie a script with real life actors like Zelenskyy. Russia was barely a threat to Ukraine but NATO still takes in hundreds of billions a year.

it's complicated.

the advances they made technologically, their appeal to the disaffected in the united states, and their ability to interfere with the neocolonial project was all real (and relatively positive for the world). their interest in potentially wiping us out was overblown because MAD makes that pointless. they unwittingly played into narratives sometimes, and that was used to enrich the MIC and multinational corps, but they genuinely were a threat to the old western-centric world order, at least in a soft sense.

It's safe to say the nuclear arms race passed the point of diminishing returns during the cold war, but that's not what's on display here.

The Russian military looking flabby and sick is just proof positive that American military spending helps us remain more operation ready for conventional warfare.

that's a bit of a reach but I think at some point this was probably true maybe by the 70's if not the 80's, they were still a competitor and a threat at the end of the day
