As much as we all rock with Dragonball for its influence, let’s be real—we all know Toriyama was just making that whole storyline up as he went along.
One Piece is a way better-planned series with tighter worldbuilding and the goat foreshadowing of any series. The side characters get way more shine in One Piece compared to DB/Z.

…But cats are still going to claim Dragonball as the GOAT series just because that’s the only joint they’ve seen.

More american? dragonball is directly influenced by journey to the west which is s Chinese mythology story about the monkey king Sun wukong he even uses the power pole goku naruto and luffy all bit his style . And one piece is flat out a better written story and has been better in the animation department for at least 2 years

I've never seen an episode of One Piece but I was introduced by the 4Kids English dub which was trash. And, I just can't get into the art style, for whatever reason.

It's not your fault but you are not going to convince me/us here breh, some of us are scared from the initial roll out of this anime.

4kids killed one piece in the US. I personally just got into it during the quarantine and grinded out the 890 episodes before hitting the current arc. The current arc artstyle is the same as the 2d portions of the broly movie which itself is the same as the recent one piece movies(its all Toei at the end of the day)

The 4kids dub got you messed up, breh. To be fair I thought it was trash too off of the 4kids dub until I read the manga. The art takes getting used to, but it does improve and the storyline is legit better written than Dragonball.

Major plot points, character arcs, villains, and full blown wars are regularly foreshadowed hundreds of chapters/episodes in advance. OP also does a way better job of letting the side characters shine. After awhile you get tired of everyone on the show only existing to get the brakes beaten off them until Goku shows up.

Imagine if Toonami had aired this version of DBZ and we all called it trash:

Breh One Piece ain't even remotely in Dragon Ball's league.

Them manga sales are fugazi as fukk. Dragon Ball only has 42 manga volumes compared to One Piece's 100+ LOL. Of course it's sold more.

Plus Dragon Ball ended in 95 while One Piece is still going on. I was born in 94 and started watching DBZ around 99/2000. I had no concept of what an anime/manga, dubs and subs etc. until about 2005 when I picked up a copy of Shonen Jump at my school's book fair and by that time I had already seen the entire series and I'm sure that's the case with a lot of other American kids my age. I thought DBZ was just another show on TV.

Them One Piece sales numbers are a direct result from the impact that Dragon Ball made. Dragon Ball isn't my favorite anime of all time but I recognize that shyt as the greatest because that shyt broke into a market that hadn't been broken into (US) and changed everything.
