Howard is perpetually soft, and he'll be soft anywhere he goes (considering that the development of a killer instinct doesn't appear to be something that you can "learn", so to speak), so that problem is not necessarily exclusive to the Lakers.
They could overcome the free throw issues though, I think. They had that same issue with Shaq, teams eventually stopped employing it when he started hitting them more, and even then his FT % only improved slightly, I'm pretty sure. So that's Dwight's challenge wherever he goes, and particularly depending on the offense he'll be in. I mean, to my knowledge there wasn't a concentrated "hack a Dwight" effort or philosophy when he was in Orlando, and it was well-known back THEN that he was a shytty free throw shooter....guess Van Gundy just knew how to "hide" his deficiencies better....?
