It's crazy how closely Kendrick & Drake is mirroring Jay-Z & Nas

Difference is kendrick has objectively flawless musical composition, so they never gonna argue about beat selection, at this point most of his songs don't even have beats, they're composed.
Background music (beats)

It doesn't have to be hard hitting or repetitive for me, but I feel like he started out real nice and eventually like after tpab his vocal styles didn't really mesh well with what was going under them. I appreciate any artist that tries, but he just keeps trying harder and harder and it sounds worse and worse to me.

Opposite for me tbh, it keeps getting better and better, he's def improving as an artist and as a musician.

Background music is indeed more appropriate in his case, as his music and the musical composition have become much, much better.
He has a much better understanding of music and how music works, and you can tell. Probably one of the only artists that make better music 15 years later than when he started, objectively.
His vocal styles and the way he uses his voice vs the musical elements is a lot better too, near perfect now. Doesn't mean you have to personally enjoy it though...but its far better now than it used to be.

Not a bad post

I do wonder what Jayzs mental crashout woulda been if social media was around that time, bro got on hot 97 in nearly tears. hov could never handle social media era with that

This is a great point too.

Drake had to deal with social media and the 24/7 news cycle that comes with it.

Jay didn’t.

I was listening to Section 80 today and I definitely do think it’s possible Kendrick was rapping better back then.

He’s probably evolved as a visionary and as an overall artist, but it’s hard to listen to stuff like ADHD, Sing for Me, DNA, or How Much a Dollar Cost and say he’s a better rapper now.

I enjoyed Kendrick’s bars more from Overly Dedicated to DAMN than I do his bars from Mr Morale to GNX. Mind, I still like both those albums a lot to be clear.

He’s a bigger star now, and still a great rapper, but the I feel the bars hit harder back then.

I think that’s why I was so obsessed with Euphoria last year and think it’s one of the best songs ever. It reminded me of how Kendrick used to rap.

Peakaboo Kendrick never would have grabbed me the way Cut You Off Kendrick did.

At this point I don't think the comparisons make any sense. It certainly seemed like Drake and Kendrick were on similar paths to the Jay/Nas beef, which was more more than just diss records. Jay was the commercial/radio rapper, Nas was more of the purist who shunned radio. A lot of those arguments from 2003-2007 were about one guy making radio records and the other not making them. What I didn't expect in the Drake/Kendrick debate was for Kendrick to not only be as good at radio as he is, but to maintain it this far into his career. A hater could have written DAMN off as a moment in time where Kendrick struck gold and got some hits. Fast forward to 2024-2025 and he's done it again on a massive level.

If Kendrick had kept in the TPAB vein of making great albums with little/no commercial popularity while Drake remained the hit maker we could continue using the Jay/Nas blueprint. We gotta now amend ourselves and recognize this is a whole new blueprint for something we've never seen before. Kendrick will be doing a sold out stadium tour in a few months. You can't do that without being a pop star.

If anyone is on the Nas path at this point it might be Cole. I don't think he gives a fukk about hits or radio at this point.

A lot of his newer styles don't have the effect that he had from section 80 and OD. The heart pt 2 is the one song that made me a Kendrick fan back in 2012 or 13. I went and listened to everything he had released around that time and everything was legendary. He has hella tracks after that that do not live up to section 80, OD, or gkmc at all.

Those 3 projects can be spun from start to finish or shuffled. My favorite 3 songs that I don't think he can top are the heart pt 2, rigamortis, and kush and korinthians

Don't compare that garbage artist kbot to Nas, but realistically drake has surpassed hov
Technically, both current are better than their predecessors in this conversation. Nas had a few couple nice tracks but overall he was garbage. Same for jayz, but he had a few more nice tracks.

They just early in the rap games development so they get praise because they were there doing "different" things
