Build up worked for Marvel in terms of box office success. They weren't A list characters so you needed solo movies to get people to care about them and their world to get them to come out to see the movies.
You didn't need that buildup for Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. People know who they were. If DC said fukk it, had no movies prior to JL, just came out with a movie with top notch writing/acting/directing and the studio let the creatives do what they want, people would've fukked with it because it was a dope movie. People weren't gonna ignore it because there weren't movies building up to JL.
