Pandemic killed these services for me. Prices and time for delivery ballooned. No longer convenient. It helps I'm close to a grocery store and got back into cooking this year. Only time i order now is when I'm in with my chick for a weekend.

Postmates Is Over $929.3 Million in the Hole

According to the Wall Street Journal, a Friday regulatory filing from SF-based Uber reveals that (also SF-based) food delivery app Postmates is running at a very, very steep loss. “Postmates had an accumulated deficit of $929.3 million as of June 30,” reporter Laura Forman notes, and in the second quarter of 2020 — yes, in those months when delivery apps were supposedly making the biggest bank in bankville — the company lost over $32 million. According to the filing, Uber’s hopes as a company are pinned on the market advantage the Postmates acquisition might offer it...but if Proposition 22, the California measure to keep delivery drivers classified as contractors, fails to pass, both companies could find themselves in even bigger trouble than before, because turning those gig-workers into full-fledged employees will cost a lot of money.

I'm a delivery driver for them and I knew the writing was on the wall when tips stopped flowing in two weeks ago:francis:

Wait, you stopped getting tips??
Explain please.

I wouldn't be surprised if amazon snatches them up. I think amazon has some food delivery stuff but not on postmates level.

None of these delivery services make sense financially. People dont want to pay what it would truly pay to have an on demand food delivery service. It can work for pizza because the drivers are taking a bunch of pizzas out at once, but for your one order of chicken parm......hell naw thats not cost efficient.

Postmates changed their options from tipping only after you get your food delivered to tipping beforehand, later or not at all. I suspect customers are choosing tip later or no tip so that means if I do 10 deliveries one night, only two will tip now :francis:

Doordash works the best for me.

Lots of restaurants nearby with $0 delivery fees. They also have a setup where you pay (I think) $9/month and that eliminates all delivery fees when you order....no matter where it's from.

Order out twice a month and it pays for itself. People that order out once a week like on Saturday night....pretty good deal for them especially if they're going to get that pizza anyway.
