Had a kidney transplant that was successful at first and finallly allowed him to mature physically. Then the transplant failed and he spent the whole last season of Diff'rent Strokes looking like he wanted to punch people in the face just for living.
His last wife was abusive and played on his insecurities. Forced him to go on daytime television to deal with it.
And this was all before his tragic death.
