The only reason the Cam and Nick Marshall years went the way they did was because they were the set starters and he had to go with them no matter what. They turned a lot of his bad calls into positives...

The way they suck Nix off they'll riot if Gatewood shined. They'd blame Gus for that too. One thing I will say, he is loyal, he stuck with Jeremy Johnson until he couldn't anymore. Plus it wouldn't hurt to go with Gatewood since his plays basically call for the QB to hit nothing but wide open receivers anyway, there's no crossing routes or anything to defend, just deep routes and screens basically.
Gus knew better than to put Gatewood back out there, that would kill Nix bc this is a game Gatewood would excel in. Nix can't win it with his arm if needed. He's got to play from ahead. Just can't afford a turnover, if so it's all downhill from there. The run game isn't a threat anymore either because of the lack of a pass attack.
