They should have let netflix eat in peace.

So much this. Like, lets keep it a buck...

Folks bar hop the shyt out of streaming service, but will always come back to the gawd. There's something that Netflix has that most services lack...variety.

Netflix is a beautiful-bloated mess of flicks ranging from Tubi bullshyt to Cinema blassics. Anime nerds, music lovers, true crime addicts, and the list goes on.

:myman: That's why my account never lapses. Even in dry periods there's at least one thing to watch every month.

Shareholders always lead you to chase that next high
Even with it just being Netflix that company would still would run into the issues they have now. Just about every US household has Netflix either through paying directly or password sharing. Netflix can no longer grow in the US because so many people have unpaid access so they're trying to come up with ways to get those freeloaders to pay something.

Seems like just a few years ago Disney was trying to get all it's content off other services and onto services they own. Now they're looking to sell their own content to other providers. HBO Max is doing the same.

It's all so funny because these greedy companies saw Netflix back when it was the only game in town and wanted a piece of the action. They've flooded the market with competing services and they're destroying each other's opportunity at profitability. None of them can price their services at a sustainable level to drive profits and they're burning money of making content with little hope in sight to reach profitability given how many services there are.

I know cord cutters hate what the cable industry became but streaming is on that same path. Consolidation to about 3 major services and the prices will probably go sky high. The next move could be long term deals on pricing or contracts to lock in a certain price. They also gotta break up password sharing.

This is what you want for gaming

Many in the industry have conjectured that the streaming ecosystem may eventually shrink to four major platforms. If that’s the case, then we’d have sacrificed cable only to replace it with a broadcast-style monopoly. A world with fewer apps could have immediate downsides for both consumers and creators. A number of streamers have raised their prices recently, and less competition would embolden them to do so again. More significantly, anyone making shows would likely lose negotiating power.
That's exactly where we're headed. Instead of hundreds of cable channels there's going to be 4-5 major streaming players who make far fewer shows than we had before prices gonna go up for less content.
