whats the fastest path to making 6 figures from desktop support? what certs , training are needed?

I did it by job hopping damn near every other year to keep picking up new skills. And picked jobs based on exposure to new technology. Didn't really care about salary the first few years. Only what technology I would be working on to pad my resume.

This is a good path if you're prepared. It's not for everybody but I'm fine with being a mercenary.

I haven't been in my current role for 6 months and I spent the weekend updating my resume and LinkedIn profile. I only have investments in my knowledge and skills and not any company.

A lot of companies don't offer much help with developing your career and the ones that do expect you to jump through hoops to qualify for "advancement" opportunities. I prefer being in charge of my own development.

Once you have decided on a career path or some skills you really want to develop, it doesn't make sense to stay in a place that doesn't further goal unless you have equity that has a vesting cliff. That's at least 40 hours of your week that could be developing skills that fit your long term interest.

I would recommend identifying the ceiling for your desktop support role, get everything you can out of the role, and start planning for the next role.

I did the training and never scheduled the exam :snoop:

Yeah. I must've rescheduled about 5 times now. Took Thursday & Friday off to do the following over & over :

- Read through MS-Learn Az104 ( again )
- AZ104 Github labs
- Cloud Academy Labs / WhizLabs
- Tutorial Dojo practice exams.

Ready to get this exam out of the way lol so I can move onto AZ-400 , AZ-305 , Linux+ , CCNA.

I feel like senior guys dont have to worry about losing out on pay or things like that. We will still get the the best picks at pricing and where we want to work

if your a skilled engineer you will get that bag :banderas:

also this quote :dead:

"Realistically, there are probably a bunch of people at the company who shouldn't be here," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly told employees in a Q&A session last week.

Took the AZ-104 today.......

.Damn this exam was hard as hell. I see why I seen a few people fail on reddit. one of my coworkers had to take it 3 times lol. .

Started off with 2hrs...I'm thinking oh I got plenty of time and then the scenarios with 4 VNets, 5 Subnets, 10 VMS, 4 NSGs, 2 Storage Accounts( 1 Blob, 1 a file share ), 1 App service plan and 15 User Requirements listed etc. Had me spending 5 - 10 minutes on 1 question.

Started getting stressed out during this one. The clock was moving fast as hell. I didn't even get the chance to finish the last question.

Passed w/700 :russ:............Never been so relieved in my life. I did *not* want to go back and re-studying.

Onto AZ-400..

Took a break. But interested in IT again.

My plan: (Helpdesk)

No degree
get A+Cert
Fake 3 month experience (homie #)

What y’all brehs think?
You might want to look up ITIL Foundation cert. Plenty of companies require it for service type jobs.

It took me two years of on and off studying because I was not as dedicated to my studies as I am now, and it took me a while to process the information. It all depends on the amount of time that you put into your studying and your study habits. I know some people who passed it within two weeks to a month, but everyone is different so go at your own pace. The exam itself though is pretty easy once you understand how each services work, how they are different from each other, and know how to read the keywords of each question that is being asked. Also those practice exams from tutorialdojo helps alot.
Which exam?
SAA-02. I wanted to get it done before SAA-03 comes out.

Good shyt. I heard from someone who has taken the Beta for the new versions of assoc and professional, that it’s slightly easier now. Especially the professional exam, the questions aren’t as lengthy and purposely difficult to comprehend.

But I think it’s normal to pass that exam and feel like you don’t actually know anything. It’s SA focused which means you don’t actually know the services in any level of depth, you just know high level functions and use cases. The SA pro is pretty much the exact same way with just longer questions. Same damn content basically.

The specialty exams are written much better, if you keep going I would definitely get into 1 or 2 of those. And to a lesser extent DevOps Pro as well.

Basically this. I took the CCP beforehand and the difference between each is exactly that. I might take the SysOps cause I want to go down the path of being a Cloud Administrator eventually.

Thank you though for the suggestion. I might try the security exam then in the future because networking is boring as shyt to me and the other ones don't interest me that much. I am over here trying to refresh my knowledge on the fundamentals of networking right now and it's a chore getting through. 😴
