It always trips me out how "Long Kiss Goodnight" doesn't necessarily sound like a RZA beat

Like when you think back on how RZA's beats sounded during that time, this doesn't really sound like a RZA beat per say

Anybody else agree or is it just me?:patrice:

Now it makes more sense!

I just went back and found the old article on the making of the album and found this quote from RZA:

"I wasn’t in the studio when they did that. I went in a couple of weeks after he did the verse. They wanted to mix it themselves, but they didn’t even know where to put things at. I had so many sounds in there. They didn’t know what the fukk I was thinking about. We had about 10 basic musical elements on that track."

^That quote^ is all the way at the bottom of the page just about, second to last song that's discussed

Really?

I don’t hear that at all

If anything it sounds closer to Bobby digital than anything else
It has bits and pieces of that too. The horns would end up being staples

But the drums are obvious. Sometime in 97/ pre cap album i remember rza bringing a dat on hot 97 and playing beats like run and i feel that. I feel it all got made round same time. Early 97 ish when he started going digital these are some if the first beats.

Its a sample

After the smoke
Black jesus
Motherless
Fish
Souk controller style

But has the horns rza would later use going digi

Marvel
Run
Bells of war
Itz yours

All have similar vibes to me

Bobby digital and tical 2000 beats is where it fully transitioned out of sampling more.

Sound true mastery to me as well. I love how rich it is.

To me it always sounded like a RZA beat that had been somewhat tailored to fit the Biggie/bad boy context better. Which is apparently what it is :yeshrug:

Yeah, RZA said in that XXL article that Puff and them wanted to mix it themselves and it's evident too, cause it doesn't sound 100% like RZA at that time.

you can tell it was altered
