Bunch of dudes in here who can see the "real truth" but couldn't give anywhere near the detail about the conflict so far as you did in this post. They're not interested in actual politics and history but just sexy conspiracy theories.

nikkas in the middle east running around with Toyotas, Hollywood quality cameras, American Tanks and half of the speak English....

Yeup, no foul play involved at all from ally nations...

Yeup, let's ignore consistent & redundant history from not even 4 years ago with Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Sudan, Iran, south america etc. Of European/american/Arabic ally nations etc funding/arming terrorists (Like Osama Bin Laden for example)...

Yeup I'm crazy for questioning all this huh? Lets just keep blindly handing over trillions of dollars annually to our governments military contracts so dikk Cheney can live fat & arming suspect militias...

Toyotas are not some exotic car that no one can get. These aren't just people with sticks living in caves. You're showing ignorance about who makes up these groups and people in the middle east in general. What are hollywood quality cameras by the way? These guys are flooded with cash through various means, many outlined in "The Dankster"'s post. Spending 30K on a quality camera for example is chump change.

As I said, The Dankster's highlights why you'll see not just american weapons, but also russian weapons, and various types of weapons in the hands of these guys. The Iraqi army, which was supplied heavily (also on the same token mismanaged by the Iraqis themselves) did come from americans. Next, the Iraqi army that was left in Iraq before the current rise of ISIS were horribly trained, horribly paid, and had no sense of discipline. So when ISIS starts riding in from Syria made up of battle harden former sunni republican guard soldiers for example who are much more motivated than underpaid and undertrained soldiers who have no ideological desire to "Defend the home" land meet up, the latter ran away en masse leaving behind undefended territory and equipment. Including banks, oil wells, and military bases filled with american supplied equipment. Add on top of the fact that the US was supplying weapons to anti-assad forces in Syria until it became clear that groups like ISIS were also joining the fight against Assad and the anti-assad forces and muddying the waters to the point we had no confidence of who was receiving our weapons.

A lot of this information is not behind the scenes stuff. You can follow a clear path to the rise of isis and the current situations very clearly through the history. Its not some mystery why these guys are at where they're at. It was all done in the open. Not comparable for example to the contras or other CIA back activities in south america for example.

Horn of Africa.
I really recommend that if you have time to look at the following documentaries to educate yourselves about the whole conflict properly.

Watch this one first
Syria: Arming the Rebels – FRONTLINE
Optional watch:
Syria’s Second Front – FRONTLINE

Then, DEFINITELY, watch this one even if you don't watch the first
Losing Iraq – FRONTLINE

This will help you get a good timeline of what led to the current situation and why we're at where we're at with ISIS.

Salute! THAT is the best documentary out and it's a MUST watch before anyone starts talking about these videos are 'fake' bla bla

Sorry breh but some of you conspiracy dudes are too much.

I hope you're trolling because @Paul Von Oberstein basically gave you a decent summary.

The evolution of Al Qaida in Iraq is not some secret mystery to anyone who is remotely familiar with what's been happening.

Sadly, our government has had some "beavis and butthead moments" when it comes to managing resources in war zones. Check out this vice documentary a couple of years ago of how much money was wasted by our government in Afghanistan.

Government Bureaucracy can be pretty inefficient, especially when you have a government that has free reign with resources as long as its supposedly used against some abstract threat of terror (especially true with the massive public support the bush administration had from the public and congress following 9/11 which led them to overstepped a lot).

However, that isn't the issue in this case. One, as I said, ISIS resources aren't only due to weapons supplied to rebel groups in Syria but also weapons held by the Iraqis who once again were not made up of disciplined soldiers and would run in fear from the enemies and leave behind all their crap. Its not a conspiracy and lie that ISIS now controls vast amounts of land in northern Iraq and southern Syria.

Also as I've said, the US has minimized weapon supplies to rebels once questions started to come out about who was getting our weapons in Syria.

Dude this thing is multifaceted and I can go all day highlight all the bits and pieces to the puzzle. I would recommend reading a bit more outside of the occasional news story. If your understanding of the situation is simply that American's supplied weapons and ISIS happened to get some of that from other groups, I would recommend you read some more. For example, learning about the sectarian conflict that existed in Iraq under Maliki which led to dissatisfaction amount sunni groups and former members of the Hussain era government and military and how many of those went on to join groups like ISIS.There is a lot of history there that paints a clear picture of the situation.
