I honestly don’t see how this was much of a surprise.
Its obvious to me that the label is trying to make this a “TDE Year” which means you start with your “warm up artists” (Isaiah Rashad. Ab-Soul) transition into “All Star players” (SZA. School Boy Q) and finish with a bang with your flagship player (Kendrick Lamar)
I legit think we’ll get 4 official TDE releases this year if NOT more.

They put too much into promoting singles when the climate has changed considerably. On top of that the single isnt great at all. He got killed on his own song and that low energy flow just doesnt work like he thinks it does. This wont end up getting him any new fans and is a waste of time as it will probably make them delay the album.

They really needed to put someone else like sza to draw more interest because zay on his own is only appealing to his base in the first place. And with the direction he seems to be going in, im not even sure hes aware why his base even likes him.

i don't get the hate for hyping isaiah...like nobody follows punch and top dawg who aren't fans of the label as a whole...these dudes aint birdman or diddy where they are collecting follows from casuals. if you're a fan of the label, there's multiple artists you likely fukk with, so hyping any one of them to the base is perfectly fine. yall act like breh went on the breakfast club teasing a drop and the world will be disappointed cuz it aint kendrick 
the same people making all ther "TDE needs to drop more" "where's Zay" threads are the type to follow punch and top, plenty folks will be happy with a new zay project (not a single tho...cmon son)

those posts get shared and retweeted by bigger publications to fans who don’t follow punch or top but are anticipating Kendrick/Sza.
For instance I saw the post on Elliot Wilson’s account. I follow Zay so I know he’s about done because he posts about it but the casuals don’t.
