Uncertain grounds
They would have to really shrug off everybody/trade a lot to Indy to make the numbers work.

Guaranteed contracts for 2017-18 season

Al Horford: $27.7 million
Avery Bradley: $8.8 million
Jae Crowder: $6.8 million
Isaiah Thomas: $6.2 million
Jayson Tatum: $5.43 million
Jaylen Brown: $4.96 million
Marcus Smart: $4.5 million
Terry Rozier: $1.99 million

Total guaranteed money: $66.43 million

Non-guaranteed/partially guaranteed contracts for 2017-18 season

Tyler Zeller: $8 million (guaranteed if not waived by 7/2/17)
Jordan Mickey: $1.5 million (guaranteed if not waived by 7/15/17)
Demetrius Jackson: $1.4 million ($650,000 guaranteed, fully guaranteed if not waived by 7/15/17)

Draft and stash players:

Guerschon Yabusele
Ante Zizic

1. Renounce the rights on all impending unrestricted free agents (Amir Johnson, Jonas Jerebko, Gerald Green, James Young).
2. Rescind Kelly Olynyk’s qualifying offer.
3. Cut Jordan Mickey and Tyler Zeller.
4. Stash Guerschon Yabusele and sign Ante Zizic.
5. Trade Demetrius Jackson.
6. Trade Terry Rozier or Marcus Smart.

If you trade Smart, that gives you enough to JUST sign Gordon to a Max. Now you trade for George, you gotta dump Crowder and Bradley and picks, lol.

I dont think Hayward would sweat 1 or 2 million per year if its the difference between trading a player or not

"...if the Celtics achieve their goal of getting free agent Gordon Hayward to agree to sign here, they will almost certainly need to get Olynyk off their books to clear part of the salary cap space they will need.

Olynyk made $3,094,013 last season, which made his qualifying offer $4,187,599. He carries a cap hold of $7,735,033, which would be the case whether or not the Celts tendered him the qualifier.

To clear Olynyk from the ledger, the Celtics would have to renounce him. And just because they have given him the qualifying offer doesn’t mean they are required to keep that offer on the table. Last season, the Celts pulled back the QO they had given to Jared Sullinger.

Celtic president of basketball operations Danny Ainge would neither confirm the team will give Olynyk the offer by today, nor would he make any comment on his situation vis a vis the roster."

Celtics will maintain control via qualifying offer to Kelly Olynyk

What if melo gets bought out and we get him for the vet min?

Thomas/Bradley/Melo/Griffin/Horford?

I wouldn't want Melo anywhere near our squad. He's aging. He can't play a lick of defense. He's an iso-ball specialist that would disrupt our motion offense. We don't need him.

So if Hayward signs in Miami or stays in Utah and Blake goes to Phoenix or stays in LA, what do the Celtics do?

I still want Zeller, Amir, Kelly O to be sent packing. Offer smaller contracts to Len and Willie Reed. Maybe try to extend either Smart or Bradley while we got the cap space, and work on trading Crowder and the guard we don't resign, plus a pick for PG, even if for a year rental.

IT/Rozier
Smart or Bradley/Jaylen
PG / Tatum
Horford/ Reed
Len/ Zizic

It's not pretty, but adding George is an upgrade over Crowder. Some rebounding improvements....Idk...

I think we've put all our eggs in the Hayward basket and I don't think he's picking Boston. Blake seems like a long shot too.

What are our fallback plans? Who do you want to see go as who on the middle-lower tier would you look at adding?

Man, wheels fell off pretty quick before FA even started.

I'm fine with it, we got a bright future and taking on rentals is always a risk.

If/when we miss out on Hayward, we should extend Avery or Smart. Both are going into their last year and we'll need to keep one of them. Sign them now so they can't test the market. Also, if you were going to offer 30ish mil a year to Hayward, assuming you miss out, why not offer Noel like 18-20 and see if Dallas matches it? They probably would but who knows.

We definitely need a scorer but an elite rim protector / rebounder is necessary too. Hope Tatum is that dude and move forward with IT/Jaylen/Avery or Smart/Tatum/Horford and Noel. Plus have the flexibility to trade, even though, ya know, Danny don't really do that.

Don't think we extend Bradley. By the time his contract up Jaylen Brown should be ready to start.

I conflicted not getting PG. On one hand we get an all-star, but on the other hand we'd be at his mercy if he doesn't sign an extension. Also, if we got Hayward and PG we'd have to absolutely gut our team to make it under the cap, and next year Isaiah and PG would be up for new deals. Someone said if we got PG and Hayward we wouldn't be able to sign PG to an extension until after next season.

I'm glad Danny rejected giving up the Brooklyn and Lakers pick. Not worth giving up for most likely a rental.

If this was the offer I think it's fair. I'm guessing the other starter was most likely Avery.

Man I hope at least Hayward signs with us but I'm not getting my hopes up.
