I have no idea what makes someone a "loser."
I served coffee, cleaned hotel rooms (campus hotel) and worked at a gas station to get through school.
But, I read somewhere in here that the OP is trying to get into journalism ... from a j-school grad, all I can say is DON'T.
Careers in journalism, for the most part, don't pay the bills.
Get into PR or some kind of corporate communications. if you're a reporter/copy editor/tv news producer ... you're still going to need that second job to eat decently.
if you love your work, more power to you.
I gave it a shot -- newspaper grunt for no money; freelance music journalist for less.
I've done a few freelance projects since I got a real job ... but they usually paid less than my bar tabs.
sold out (went the MBA route); no regrets.
