i'd put it up there as a classic, and definitely a personal classic. i remember i was on exchange at Howard in fall 04 - this album was so fukking anticipated and when it dropped it dominated conversation, playlists, dorm rooms, etc. that first time nikkas heard ASAP :banderas:

this, the carter, and juvenile (+ utp) was fall 04

Definitely a classic. I think it even aged better than “Trap Muzik”, which I played yesterday. He was able to take a little bit of the older lyricism and flow from the “in da streetz” tapes/“I’m serious” and mix it in with the dumbed down flow of “Trap Muzik”. Perfect middle ground. King was definitely his biggest album, but Urban Legend was perfect, despite “get ya shyt together”.

Still mad “Drug Related” didn’t make the original album, I’m glad they made it a bonus track on streaming though. One of TI’s better displays of the older mixtape lyricism and storytelling, before he simplified everything for the charts.

Of course the ATL
Lyrically he had perfected his flow and had gritty street records (U don’t know me, ASAP), club bangers (Bring em out, get loose) and motivational/inspirational records (motivation & prayin for help)

It was an album built for both radio and the streets so it was more accessible for fans than Trap Muzik and arguably is his best commercial album outside of Paper Trail. It doesn’t get the credit it deserves but it’s a top 3 album in his discography imo

Underrated record is Limelight
