First Divorce Rate by Race, Ethnicity, and Nativity for Males and Females
In 2021, Black females and Black males experienced the highest first divorce rates (24.5 and 22.6, respectively).
Asian males and females had the lowest first divorce rates (7.7 and 8.3, respectively).
While most females had higher first divorce rates than their same race/ethnic male counterparts, this was not the case among those categorized as “Other,” for whom the first divorce rate for males was 16.4 and for females it was 14.6.
Native-born males and females have higher first divorce rates than their native counterparts (see Figure 4). This was the case for each racial/ethnic group examined, except among Black males for whom the first divorce rate of foreign-born males was higher than that of native-born males (25.7 versus 24.0, not shown).

Divorce rates in the United States vary by race and sex. Here are some federal statistics on divorce rates by race:
Black
In 2021, Black females had the highest first divorce rate at 24.5, and Black males had the second highest at 22.6. Black women also have the highest divorce rate overall, at 38.9% who have ever been divorced, compared to 35.6% of White, non-Hispanic women, 27.3% of Hispanic or Latino women, and 13.9% of Asian women.
Asian
Asian men and women have the lowest divorce rates, with 11.4% and 13.9% who have ever been divorced, respectively. Asian women also have the lowest divorce rate among those currently married and in their first marriage in 2016.
White
White women have a divorce rate of 35.6% who have ever been divorced, and White men have a divorce rate of 35% who have ever been divorced.
Hispanic or Latino
Hispanic or Latino women have a divorce rate of 27.3% who have ever been divorced, and Hispanic or Latino men have a divorce rate of 26.1% who have ever been divorced
