Smartphone companies been scamming since they were invented

First of all, you will need to upgrade the OS software at least once in a while so all the apps work fluently. Most of the companies stop sending updates after a couple of years.

Secondly, quite often some users experience problems with their phone after they upgrade it :mjlol:

Thirdly, too many consumers can't even take care of their phone, dropping them shyts everywhere.

So yeah an average consumer most likely has to buy a new phone every couple years.

If you buy a highest tier phone and take care of it well, it should work for you for over 3 years though. They have strong chipset, good build quality, take good photos, etc. Many new models just have more gimmicky stuff that the average consumer does not really care.

not unless you're buying it outright or don't care about the $

paying monthly installments for a phone or getting tied to an overpriced contract plan? nah

I might upgrade my phone next year and keep it for an extra year. I have a Pixel 6. Now they are on the 9th version of the Pixel. I normally keep my phones for 3 years at best because I don't see the point of paying $600 - 700+ for a phone like every time a new version drops.

Depends where you are getting that battery, because that voids your warranty and makes it non water resistant.
Apple will replace an iPhone battery for close to $100. Unless you get a used phone you aren't coming close to that and a battery replacement from an official source isn't gong to impact the water resistance. The other manufacturers are doubtful to cost much more if more at all.

Many of the major makers like Google, Apple, and Samsung offer upwards of 6-7 years of software updates. Reasonably after 5 years your phone is probably gonna start to feel outdated though.

Imo no if your phone is still running fast.

I've had my s21 ultra since release and got my battery changed last year, still runs perfect and I don't see anything that I really miss in the s24 ultra

S24 ultra kinda sucks. I miss my 21 ultra low key

No.e of these phones impress me. Next one will be a fold if they make an uncompromising version

Those new iPhone look good too

The battery on my iPhone XR (2018) finally crapped the bed and has me itching for one of the latest model iPhones.
I really enjoy the small form factor of the XR though. I like my pockets to feel as empty as possible.
I carry an incredibly thin wallet with my licenses, health insurance card, and 2 bank cards.

Not if you purchase an unlocked phone that is supported by manufacturer OS/security updates

I got the S9 back in 2018. The storage is almost full and it doesn't hold a charge for more than a few hrs without being plugged in....but it does the job.

Put an Otterbox and screen protector on it....and you good. That way, when I finally upgrade, it'll actually be worth it.

Sure, especially google and apple, they have updates for a while.

However average worldwide consumer can't afford such phones. They buy cheap ass chinese stuff or low tier samsung like the A series, that have slow exynos chipset. Filled with bloatware on top of that.

Which is what I said, a more expensive phone should work for years. Midrange? With some luck maybe. Low tier? Nah it becomes slow fast.
