I think the training that comes with it and the fact that success isn't promised by outside things like "getting over" and having an "It" factor. If they came from another sport like being Strongman, Football, or Bodybuilding they probably already made good money and have a way to continue to eat in that circle rather than as I said taking years to train, travel and risk injury in something you don't love for success that's not a guarantee.

So it's similar to how baseball is missing out on athletes because there's no guaranteed success.

did you ever stop to realize that people are not big like that in abundance anymore.

The average American weigh 195.5 according to the CDC, that along with the population increase means there should be more guys that fit the bill.

Couple things here--

1. The whole big hoss thing is relatively recent in the grand scheme of things. Bruno Sammartino, Verne Gagne, Bob Backlund and Pedro Morales, while all built weren't especially tall men. The big boss face didn't become a thing until Hogan in the 80s. Most wrestlers pre Vince Jr looked like suburban dads.

2. Big men are being drawn to bigger money in UFC, NBA and NFL.

3. Stricter drug testing--half these midgets would at least be chris benoit size if Vince let them get back on the juice. Wellness is allegedly a joke but keep in mind that WWF didn't even do drug testing pre 92 and Attitude era.

Hmm 1 and 3 haven't been brought up yet. In the case of (1), other companies didn't have hosses but they did have above average height and weight guys like Dusty, Flair, Bockwinkel who was 5' 10 but 240 lbs, Harley Race, Nikita Koloff. These guys weren't hosses but they damn sure didn't make the average fan think they could beat them up in a real fight.

no ...
people have been small and undersized as a rule and constant.
since I was in high school as sophomore, watching the freshmen who was in the class of 1995.
since then people have been consistently smaller and shorter.

I get what you're saying about how they can be hit or miss but they just signed a damn 5'6 160 pounder. They really couldn't find at least 6'1 260 dude anywhere to sign?

Hell, WWE even eased up on the roid testing in the mid-90s to compete with WCW and that's why we saw the influx of musclehead losers in the 2000s
