I guess my question is how long will people continue to buy dedicated gaming consoles? the casuals have since abandoned both the Wii and Nintendo for tablets and smartphones.

sure we still have the core casual gamer propping up the industry (the kinda gamer that only plays Madden, Call of Duty, NBA 2K, Grand Theft Auto, Halo, ect) but how long is that wave ride-able? When they finally tire of the annual Assassin's Creeds and Call of Duties and move on to another hobby what's gonna be left for the real hardcore gamers when all the casuals abandon gaming?

these companies keep putting out these boxes that lose so much money on hardware its pushed Nintendo to the brink of collapse. Nintendo finally realized they can't keep up in the graphics arm race so they dropped out and adopted other ideas and now they're ultimately shunned and with no casuals to help them its gonna be a really hard road.

honestly i fear for gaming. i feel like its gonna end up cannibalizing itself and die off. the casual gamers are a necessary evil to keep gaming going.

1.) What is happening with the Wii, I already told you this back on so
You didn't wanna believe me, but now what :yeshrug:

2.) Casuals didn't leave wii for smartphones/tablets. You don't interact with the outside world enough to know that :krs: Its just that the xbox and to a lesser extent, the ps3 have the same experiences the wii provides. Most gamers want more than just gimmicks, so once nintendo wasn't improving on what it brought to the table? It get outdated QUICK
The wii-u is D.O.A imo. Everything it has going for it, Xbox can already do basically. And the new xbox will do whatever the current xbox can't emulate :hula: plus bring all new experiences to the table.

3.) So what is to come? A fusion of what you was talking about. A system that can do everything. You know what they will call it?

:blessed: The Xbox :blessed:

Run Thru U Like Skattebo
the casuals have been leaving, the wii u is like a man without a country, casuals dont care and hardcore pretty much laugh at it.

there will always be games. PCs and probably in a decade TVs will be so powerful they do everything a set top box could do, and by their very nature they will be open platforms, so people will develop whatever they want for them. by the time consoles die, digital downloads will be the norm.

The struggles of the wii u are more just a sign of a bad launch and library. Nothing more nothing less. Nintendo ain't on the brink of collapse, that's just the same old nintendoom that's been going on since n64.

If Nintendo suffers then the gaming industry suffers. They are one of the last innovators of gaming and if they go, then all of gaming will copy each other till another crash happens

Not even a Nintendo stan (I owned all of their rival machines... Genesis, PS1, 2, 3 and PSP) but we wouldn't even be talking about console gaming had it not been for Nintendo Entertainment System. It's gonna be a sad day if Nintendo bows out like Sega.

I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon though, I think much like the 3DS (and PS3) the Wii U is having a slow beginning and once better games come out for it... it will do just fine, not crushing the buildings like the original Wii, probably more like N64.

We all shoulda seem this coming.

Nintendo always been the underdog when the real console wars started between the big 3

PS1 > N64
PS2 > XBOX > GameCube
360 >< PS3 > Wii

Only did the >< cuz I ain't tryna hurt no feelings while gettin my point across.

The Wii U isn't really bringing anything new. Nintendo fans / hardcore gamers of course got it, but fans of games instead the system are gonna wait till the game drops before coppin the system

I'm not copping till the new SSB drops. I can imagine if another 3D Pokemon or large 3D mario game drops sales would jump for both of those games. Their catalog is pretty weak right about now.

But that doesn't speak for the 720 or PS4 though. Those are going to sellout with lines first day. And the closer it gets the higher anticipation gon get. It's still nikkas out there that ain't even hip new systems are dropping.

Have you noticed that no one is really impressed with these consoles anymore? No feature gets people excited or do they really feel the need to predict the potential of a certain function. It wasn't that way when the Wii was in development or the PS3. We spend more time on debating what they won't do (BC) and trying to predict and justify these high ass console prices, the consoles themselves are an after thought, partly do to the companies keeping everything under wraps and partly because most gamers know we have reach the limit of innovation. These next consoles are just more of what we already have.

This is in my opinion the last generation of gaming as we know it, casual gamers have already killed it, the whole "share" button thing from Sony's announcement all but proved that to me. So much time wasted on the media aspects were going to be instead of really showing us what the PS4 was capable of.

I actually think PC gamers will win this generation with that Steam box, no one is paying a G for it but somewhere down the line after a few price drops, hardcore gamers will convert over since I doubt there will be many IPs to keep people on the console landscape.
