@Koichos have you hear of this?

Channel 10 (`Arutz `Eser) reported on this very subject many, many moons ago, in which a delegation from a South Korean television station were featured visiting one of B'nei B'raḳ’s y'shivοt (Talmud colleges) to witness Talmud-study first hand. Avishai ben Hayyim was the journalist for that episode, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, intellectual pursuit does play a major role in the study of Talmud; learning a sugya (a lesson in g'mara, which might be anything from a paragraph of just a few lines to a lengthy exchange spanning several folios) stresses hypothetico-deduction—the ability to compartmentalize, pigeonhole or classify, which can be applied rather seamlessly to certain endeavors such as being a lawyer.
