What are ya'lls thoughts? Was having this discussion with a friend of mine, and to us it seems that things are only getting worse. (And that's with us living in TX one of the states that was least affected by the Recession.) My friend made a good point: Is it possible that the Government or whomever (the powers that be) are pumping money into the Stock Market to help boost moral support and make the ppl believe things are getting better? Every week you hear that the Stock Market is at all time highs, however All I see around me is more and more homes being foreclosed/being sold; and 90% of Businesses are all DEAD (no matter what Industry. Whether it be Restaurants, Automotive shops, Electronics stores, etc..)

Thoughts?

People who work in a protected industry or in government jobs are doing pretty well. But who knows how long that will last especially if Immigration reform passes and you flood the labor market with millions of people.

needless to say i am enjoying my time spent in colorado

if they become legal, it should only help increase wages since they wont be easily exploitable illegal workers. they are already in the workforce, there is no flood unless you are talking work visas for tech fields

I'm not worried about the people already here but the millions more who will flock here if Immigration reform passes.

there will only be an increase if the economy greatly improved. immigration is actually down now

and judging from the proposals that have been tried in the past, there are certain provisions that seem to be politically important in order for a bill to pass that would call for improving border security before an amnesty for the people already here.

Those border security provisions are just window dressing and can easily be ignored with the right amount of political pressure applied. I saw it firsthand working for DHS when they would selectively enforce immigration laws already on the books.

No, it is not. Jobs are basically paying the same thing as they were 25 years ago. Meanwhile cost of living skyrocketed (housing, food, gas, utilities). Things are getting WORST. I feel like we are basically in a depression era right now, but of course they will not admit that.

US propaganda is like no other lol. I stopped watching major news channels a while ago, but even a channel like CNN is starting to feel like US Weekly/tmz celebrity news.

for some it's getting better, for others it's about the same, for others things are getting worse.

there are an extremely disproportionate amount of people in the latter two.

About the same sounds right, especially for people who were realistic. I think the economy will always crush people who get caught up in the hype of the American dream

yeah, considering that in my lifetime of living on the border, i have never seen the government all that committed to actually securing the border or punishing employers who rely on an underpaid illegal workforce, it's hard to imagine them actually following through, but that may also be why they cant really get republicans to support it anyway. i guess we will probably stay exactly like this until the latino population reaches a threshold where the political will exists. probably a couple more decades. in the mean time, i dont see anything drastic changing economically or demographically.
