LA, Detroit, and Chicago are pretty underrated when it comes to lyricism and I'd argue their best lyricists have damn near reached the highs of top tier East Coast lyricists.

Also, the East Coast has fallen from grace in the lyrical department since the mid 2000's. Joey tried to bring it back but he didn't sustain the hype for long. The underground is dope though.

True, but the concentration of dope lyricists are much lower in those places, especially the further back in time you go. NY/EC is where the culture of being "nice" reigned supreme.

Facts.

Sleepy Brown said B.I.G. is one of his Top 5 rappers because he was able to be "fly but still lyrical". He said Organized Noize and the south always knew NY was the standard for lyrics because it was the only place where you had to be lyrical or you got dissed.

Rico said when they started working on OutKast, their goal was to be accepted by the fans in NY who wanted to hear lyrics. He said, "I'm from Atlanta and my Top 5 rappers outside of OutKast are all from the East Coast because I like lyrics". He named Jay, B.I.G, Kane, Rakim and Pac.

Wu Tang outside of Meth and Raekwon made little to no sense most of the time. Just rhyming for the sake of rhyming, especially Ghostface after Ironman.
Show you havent listened to ghostface at all after supreme.

He has like 12 songs TOTAL that make no sense on purpose. Say anything but thise verses make no sense means you lack understanding. You arent part of the “initiated” as rza/rick rubin said about wu lyrics.

The entire bpw pretty toney wizard of poetry and fishscale are filled with verses so coherent they could be movie scenes. Rae is WAY more random with his verses. And meth? Meths songs almost never had topics. He rapped about rapping 90% of the time. Rza gza mk and deck are easily way more coherent with topics. But ok
