I don't like this thread.

I'll explain why

1. I was thinking about this song before this thread was made. I FEEL robbed and plagiarized when something I think about magically, randomly appears on this message board or any other even though intellectually I KNOW that it's coincidence

2. This was a song on a greatest hits cd. Unless you're Eminem or 2pac those don't get pushed or do all too well. It was for Colombia at a time that Nas was well into his Def Jam run. That greatest hits cd came out the same day as American Gangster (the Jay z album) and I know because I bought both from FYE that same day. No way was anyone going to push this as a big single.

3. It was a retrospective, reflective account of his career basically. It almost has a "I'm ready to retire" old person reminiscing type feel to it. It actually has kind of a subtle sad feel to it.

4. I feel Nas has plenty of other tracks like this. Hell LRNA chronicles Illmatic, the formation of the firm, his commercial rise, his relationship with Biggie and Wu Tang, his mom's health situation and more. When surviving the times to me was more Nas recalling the days of being a Rakim stan, getting a record deal, his rejection, final acceptance and completing the deal.

5. Nas has way too many great songs.

I get what you’re saying. Nas has a kind of innocence about him in the song that makes it what it is. And the sample at the beginning and end and MJ vocals tie it all together

Not saying it’s a perfect song but it was executed perfectly

And the song was extremely overlooked at the time, I agree

For example, I remember seeing the video the first time and it premiered on Bet 106th and park.
As a Nas fan I was blown away because

1. They actually made a video and single out of it

And 2. It was actually being showcased on a popular TV show.

Funny thing is, it didn’t even fit the show vibe. Crowd reaction was dead when the video ended but I was pretty excited. I always liked the song since. The video probably makes the song much better.

Chris Webber produced this beat :wow:

This is insane. I also like Suicide Bounce too. Webber had a nice feel for producing

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Was listening to this the other day

But honestly when I think of Nas in prime form the first song that pops into my head is "Nas is Like"

And I Am .. is nowhere near his best album, which is odd

And while we're on the topic Im also surprised this track didn't make Lost Tapes 2

Film was released. This one should’ve made it tho.

If you're not an introspective nikka I can see how you don't fukk with it

It may not be my favorite but it's my most played

Nip rapped on this beat and killed it with his own introspection :wow:

I kinda just dawned on me.... its probably one of his best all around. Certainly a top 10 Nas song. Yet it's hardly mentioned and wasn't even close to being a hit single. I don't think he even performs this at shows :patrice:

Anyone else feel the same?

Probably one of the best instrumentals/samples he's rapped on also :ohlawd:
Maybe I just got different taste:hubie:

Maybe it’s your favorite
