Although I feel this is a troll post......In mainstream society, he's often regarded as #1. His name alone attracts viewing audiences. Easily the most monetarily successful director of all time and he has the critical acclaim to back it up.

Not even top 10. In order to be considered a top 10 director you have to have written your great films imo, not just directed them. You give James Cameron Jurassic Park or any of these Spielberg big budget films, you would have gotten an even bigger box office hit - and Cameron isn't even considered top 10.

Definitely not. His entire carreer was geared towards making money rather then making some amazing genre defining films. Look at Spielbergs films and you will notice that none of them really jump out at you as a triumph in the art.
