It's called a "Sleeper Hit" there's been many hits like this (Mo Bamba, truth hurts, nirvana's "nevermind" album).

His first album was really good, I remember when he never showed his face and only dropped singles, I thought every single one could've been a hit, dude is underrated as hell, but he's finally starting to get the shine he deserves.
