Is no one else concerned, that working class kids are being priced out of youth sports?

This is a fact. I remember when I got into the workforce for real in my twenties and you could always tell who played sports as a kid and who didn’t. The guys who were always out for themselves and had no understanding of coming together for a common goal.
I literally had someone at work tell me today that they don't like group activities. I'm like, you are one of 'those' people.

Indeed, and it feels like the shift kinda sorta came when the country passed integration. It’s like it was decided if they couldn’t have those nice facilities to themselves then they’ll just degrade them completely and it’s get in where you fit in. Not at all to say segregation is preferable but rather that the dominant society preferred to nullify the impact of the institutions that people got integrated into. From the vote to the public school system nearly every institution is becoming increasingly devalued for the average American.

A lot of white Americans' distrust of American institutions can be tied to desegregation. Conservatives have been on a decades long mission to undo desegregation and have adapted their plans over the years. Now a days, you see a lot of talk behind charter schools. That allows them to keep resources amongst themselves for their kids and "their" charter schools, and let other kids rot in their underfunded public schools/charters.

Truth is, these folks don't care about this country or any of these institutions, just themselves, their social standing, and their wealth and will sell out everything and one.

What kind of camps you doing in the summer?

My kid did Made Hoops, and West coast Elite. He got invited to the Made hoops travel team but we told them maybe next year as hes just now about to turn 11 and he already travels a bunch with his current team.

And i feel you on the specialization and agree....... because Id LOVE for my lil man to specialize in Basketball but his moms grew up playing Soccer and took it all the way to the collegiate level and her side is a soccer family( Grandfather is a coach and uncle played soccer in college) So he has it in his blood and he loves it only SLIGHLTLY less than basketball.

Soccer def helps my lil man as far as court vision , passing people open, and footwork.

So it’s not all the way bad.
Yea that was the other advantage often cited. There are things from other sports that can help you be better at your primary sport. I remember Abby Womback saying that she was so good at headers because of timing rebounds when she played basketball as a kid.

shyt, I played football my freshman year in high school and playing D Line taught me how to beat box outs better. Completely fukked my freshman year of basketball though so I quit that shyt.

If you’re paying 2-3 grand you’re being scammed or the kid ain’t really that nice to keep it a stack

If you can hoop they will find you .. it’ll take a little more time possibly and will be a couple extra steps but I’ve been coaching youth for almost a decade …. And when you have a real hooper everyone knows and will try to move heaven and earth to get your kid on their squad if he/she is really like that . The kids know who really like that way before the adults in these situations too

Everything you need to get your kid nice is already out there

All yall doing with those lil stacks is throwing money out the window ..because the money yall paying ain’t gonna be able to compete with the Boozer boys,Arenas,Tahj and em because their fam is throwing 25x more on em..so what yall really doing ? All the money does is give you a shortcut IF the kid is nice

Football is just extremely popular that the "hood" prioritizes it. Barrier for entry is higher than other sports, but since there are a lot of positions that can be played at once, it can be seen as more accessible.
True

Plus...QB is the one position where a lot of coaching is needed nowadays. Maybe some at WR too. Kickers/punters.. half of them come from soccer and sometimes multiple sports.

With football, you gotta meet the physical requirements first......so all the training in the world won't help 5'11 215 lb Rich Kid Kody be a great OLB when the running back on the other team is 6'3" 230 lb Micah Parsons and HE'S being recruited to play the OLB spot you wanted at Penn State.

That's what keeps football from being a complete rich kid sport. NBA it's mostly height and skill. That's easy to pass down if you were an NBA player and married a decently athletic wife (think about the Curry's). Football, outside of QB/K/P, you have to be some degree of physical freak. Look at Sterling and Shannon. Same blood, same house but different skill sets. Sterling was much more naturally gifted but Shannon was more durable. Rich people and expensive trainers can't control that.

Yeah part of the wider web of problems which comes with pricing out the poor. Whether it’s housing, education, or any other important need for human development the predatory and very short sighted nature of the economics we practice is creating an increasingly narrow path of opportunity for people.

For all we know, the next great minds that’ll advance our civilization are stuck in some slum with little to no chance to develop into their fullest selves. Culturally speaking, this arrangement is incredibly stagnating and makes the possibilities often advertised to us as quintessential hallmarks of American society seem like the same bullshyt products they peddle in commercials every single day.
