Is Nintendo’s core fanbase still kids that grew up on NES & SNES?

Are they the ones largely buying new Nintendo systems and in turn making their kids first system a Nintendo product?

I think this is the reason we get an Entire E3 dedicated to a 2014 deluxe version of the game and stans calling the show a success.

Where are the ambitious projects and new IPs?

Bill said games that aren't ready won't be shown. The reason they showed a lot of far out titles in the early going of the Switch is because it was just that, an early showcase of what's to come for Switch. An ambitious project would be that very game they dedicated most of the show to, FE which they showed a trailer and gameplay of, whatever that mech game they opened the show with, and that new style of pokemon.

Nintendo's base is kids period. Parents that buy could have owned an nes or SNES. But Nintendo's popularity today is that it's kid friendly and isn't something focused on FPS, death, Demonic sexually frustrated teens/etc. If you have children it's the logical choice. Super Lucky's tale and knack isn't enough by themselves to make a dent in Nintendo's armor...

I feel like this is the logic if you grew up on Nintendo.

There’s no harm in buying a kid a PS4 or Xbox and it’s better to do so. Because Nintendo is selling nostalgia at this point

problem is that it's working and it doesn't appear that it won't stop. They can rely on their staple characters forever and get away with it.

they have the kids demo locked down and it doesn't hurt that their core character games aren't trash.

Smash Bros Ultimate is a new game, it's not a port or "deluxe" version of it like MK8 was. It's running on a new engine, has new characters, has core mechanics changed across the board, has new moves for a lot of old characters, new final smashes, has better graphics, has new stages and music and all existing characters from the entire series, some of which were absent from the last game. It's an entirely new game. It may use some assets of course from the last game but it's new. Hell even the old shyt is new(stages have new backgrounds/new hazards).

It's not a MK8 Wii U to MK8 Deluxe upgrade. Did you even watch the Direct breh? :dahell:

It's a catch 22. When they do make a new IP, no one really buys that shyt. Very rarely do they become breakthrough successes like Splatoon.

Throughout the years they've made a ton of new IP's but they ultimately sold like shyt because most people want them to stick to the mario's smash bros's zelda's etc

This.

When it comes to new IP from Nintendo, you're not getting Ghost of Tsushima, you're not getting The Last of Us and you're not getting Detroit: Become Human.

What you will get is something either in the realm of Splatoon, ARMS, Steel Diver, Endless Ocean, The Wonderful 101, Sushi Striker or Brain Age, Nintendogs, 1,2 Switch , Wii Sports and Nintendo Land.

And if all else fails, they got the Mario's, Zelda's Donkey Kong's and Pokemon's to fall back on due to brand recognition.

Quoted just in case it gets overlooked the first time. I don't understand how people think it's a port

This is why a phrase the OP in the way that I did. Because if there core fanbase was not these people that would be forced to take more risk with their software to catch newer audiences

And people saying they have kids. They may be true but they have kids of people that grew up on Nintendo. People that had Sonys there entire life aren’t going to invest in Nintendo for their kids

:comeon: Are there any new characters? We’re getting some updated final smashes for characters and polishing on everything else

They did/are taking risks though with those unheard of/new IPs. Endless Ocean ain't shyt a typical gamer would play. Same goes with Electroplanton. But they didn't catch on to warrent more than a single game.
