Look what happened to Napster. It was a big pirating site. They got sued. They came back but in a way so as not to be a source for pirated material.
If megaupload does come back, the same thing will happen.
It's going to take a major technical redesign for movies, games and music to stop pirating.
From a pirating standpoint, computer technology and recordable CDs, DVDs, thumb drives, MP3 format, etc. has made it easier to pirate movies, games and music. It's kind of a joke. If I had a major stake in the movie, computer gaming or music industry, the medium that the data is stored and the machines to access that medium would have to be tightly coupled. Like playing a record through a phonograph, playing a video game with a game cartridge, or watching an 8mm movie through a movie projector. You can't copy directly but you can still record it second hand, microphone up to the phonograph speaker or videotaping the projection screen while playing an 8mm movie.
As for computer gaming, everyone should have stayed away from CD format. Cartridges like Sega Genesis or Atari made pirating highly difficult.
