and .....u can get out of marriage, u cant get out of being a parent

If you're Black, then yes, marriage is a Big Deal.

Our familial structure was destroyed by slavery and even further by Liberal policies starting in the 1940's that excluded Black men from the home and encouraged Black people to look for the Government to provide for their needs instead of their own community/family.

We cannot function as a group because the fundamental core of a group, aka, 'The Family" consisting of a MARRIED Father & Mother + children has become anathema to Black people as evidenced by questioning the institution of marriage.

Some will say, 'You can have all that without being married.'

Let me put it like this. Marriage is a huge deal on the level of security, resource, and commitment. Nobody wants to be the lonely guy/gal in their 40s still chasing, while their self esteem diminishes. Eventually, everybody has to find that perfect one despite their huge differences. Sure, marriage is a frustrating state of affairs, but like Chris Rock said:

"Married and bored, single and lonely".
