I can see that reasoning. My kinfolk got married for that reason(had a kid on the way). Never really considered it necessary to be married when having kids

It depends on the value one places on it. I don't necessarily see it as a "big deal" (even though I've done it), but it does have its pros and cons just like never marrying.

Fundamentally the reasons for getting married are indeed financial.

Of course the person you marry you should be in love with and all of that but when looking at the tangible benefits of marriage most deal with $$$
