Is Mario Odyssey worth getting for someone who's never played a Mario game?

I've heard great things about it but I've never played this type of game before. The only Mario game I've played was Mario kart

I honestly didn’t like it but i realize im an outlier, i found it tedious.

I haven’t really enjoyed a 3D mario game since 64

yes…the last mario game I played prior to it was super mario 3 which I never finished…typically not a fan of platformers bcuz of the difficulty of the earlier super mario series but I enjoyed odyssey immensely…I didn’t appreciate it immediately but it was a fun game once I really got into it…I completed everything except for the final bonus level which reminded me of the old super mario games re: how insanely difficult it was…the “new york” world is a classic gaming level imo
