Nope. It made over $300M. And after earth made $230M. As long as he's making money, he will continue to work.

His films he directed have grossed 2.4 Billion off a combined 700 Million for all the films. What people need to understand is Hollywood could care less about reviews and reception. They only care about dollars. M. Knight has 1 Classic (6th Sense), 1 Borderline Classic (Unbreakable) 1 Sold Film (Signs). "The Village" wasn't terrible just wasn't great. "The Happening" was bad but there was some good ideas there about global warmer/climate change. "Lady in the Water" was just a disaster, he said he wanted to make "An Adult Fairy Tale". Lord. "The Last Airbender" just strayed to far away from it's source material.

"After Earth" wasn't as bad as people were saying but it wasn't great. He's basically on a losing streak right now but there is a good director in there. I think Hollywood and his success are to blame for his downfall. He was being called the next Hitchcock cause of his suspense and the next Spielberg cause of his success. I actually Like M. Knight and I do think he's 1 great film away from getting his props back but what I find funny is people say "Nobody like M. Knight" but his movies are successful.

Both of those movies didn't sell of the strength of dudes name. Avatar the Last Airbender is one of the most prominent cartoons of the past decade, and WILL SMITH. Nuff said and neither of those movies were technically great. His next projects will be way more telling. I actually think he's a talented director, and his 1st 2 movies were brilliant and I actually liked Signs. It's just he has had a string of mediocre/bad movies and I would be surpised if he can return to form.

There's plenty of directors who put out blockbuster shyt movies that only the studios care about success wise hence my original post.

If you want to base talent on financial success, by all means, enjoy the ones he has and hope he's one film away.

Hope.

But don't make excuses for his failures.

I wasn't using Box office to defend him, but to explain why he still get jobs. I broke down what films I thought was good and wasn't good. But "6th Sense" and "Unbreakable" alone make him a talented director cause both of those movies aged very well.

But on the flip side after "The Happening" and "Lady in the Water" I can understand if someone didn't want to watch another M. Knight movie again. But every great director catalog isn't perfect, everyone has dropped a weak film somewhere. The problem with M. Knight is many would say "Signs" was his last "HIT" as far as critics and box office and that was what 12 years ago? "Village" got decent reviews but I would say word of mouth was mixed. Everything else has gotten terrible reviews. "The Last Airbender" made money but the fans rejected it overall. Again there is no doubt he's on a losing streak. I think he needs to do a smaller movie like he did when he produced "Devil" and get back to what made 6th sense and Unbreakable so good. They were just dope concepts and stories. Maybe he needs someone else to write the movies instead of himself.

I agree, but as long as projects he is attached to make significant money in the box office, he will always be working IMO.

He managed to screw up The Last Airbender, still wondering how he managed that. All he had to do was follow the damn script.

He tried to do wayyyy too much with that movie and ended up explaining 80% of the plot instead of letting it happen. I was thinking that the movies and the timeline would be stretched which they were but not by enough. It would actually patch up a few timeline issues I had with the show. And give Sokka and Yue actual time to have a deep connection which was botched in both.

There's obviously a lot that would have to be trimmed down from the source but he could've had a Harry Potter-like franchise on his hands had he only taken the time to do so.

He also had one good idea that could've been pretty effective had it been executed right. The Firebenders not being able to generate fire themselves. Imagine at the end when the firelord scorches the earth that after their whole lives of having to be near fire the whole fire nation army could suddenly firebend from within. On the other hand, that would've completely crippled Azula's character. I was kinda mad at that, too, cause that girl seemed like she would've been a wonderful Azula.

The only great movie this hack has is Unbreakable...that shyt is amazing...the Sixth Sense was garbage except for the "twist" and the rest of his movies are either overrated or horrendous...so yes, his time is over.

LOL @ "Sixth Sense" being garbage, it's been 15 years and there still hasn't been a better suspense thriller yet. As for M. Knights next film:

514002_800wc.jpg

Suppose to be a low-budget thriller. Also Him and Bruce Willis are teaming up for a movie after that. So far they are 2/2 so maybe Bruce can save M. Knight's career. I think they should consider an "Unbreakable" sequel. I mean that movie was so slept on when it dropped. M Knight made a "Nolan" comic book movie long before Nolan did it. As in a "Realistic" comic film.
