See... THIS RIGHT HERE is what I mean. When nikkas get all up in arms about a Jay-Z verse and say "ohhh he talkin' down to us cause he talkin' about expensive art", they're basically pedestaling the fukk out of white people and feeding the belief that black people cannot themselves be sophisticated or like things outside of what black people are "allowed" to like. nikkas running around on a hamster wheel and don't even realize it, cause doing things the rich white people do is automatically "tryin' to be white" instead of "being successful and black". It's either nikkas with inferiority complexes or white people with a superiority complex that criticize shyt like that. To not like the man's music is one thing, but it runs deeper than that with a lot of y'all, and I don't get why.
All we get from the dude is music and interviews- ain't a single person in this thread hung out with him enough to know what he's "trying to be" or what/who he doesn't have respect for. But from the things being said, all it looks like to me is that muhfukkas would rather hear him talkin' about hood status symbols and nothing more. Things that are relatable to them, things they worship, things they view as acceptable goals for black men to achieve. One dude said "oh but back then he was talkin' about Jordans, expensive liquor... nikkas don't give a fukk about art". That kinda mentality is limiting to us and canonizing about white people. And that's a bigger display of self-hate than anything Jay-Z's said on a song. Because it's basically saying we must stay in this box, idolize these things, and like nothing outside of that... meanwhile white people don't have to be boxed in and can like all kinds of shyt... and if one of us is successful enough to enjoy the things only rich white people can afford to enjoy, then that person is turning his back on his race.
