Is it safe to say Dr Dre’s The Chronic is responsible for hip hop going mainstream?

Hammer was crossover success before the hip-hop music genre was mainstream. All of this represents a commercialized b*stardization of Hip-Hop culture. Gangsta rap was just a Hollywood spin on what was already hardcore rap …
g-funk was a lift of Parliament Funkadelic and George Clinton

but yes, the critical acclaim of this album opened the door to the mainstream for the genre and that’s why Doggystyle was such an anticipated release

Recognize what’s really real

The chronic was 99

Before that, Snoop, 2Pac, etc. All had multi-million selling albums with big hits on the hot 100.

Heck, Mariah low key had a influence by featuring rappers on contemporary mainstream pop songs on radio

Edit: my bad confused the chronic with 2001

Imagine if you said this in an everyday conversation and people that didn’t know better didn’t have a chance to verify it

be careful

‘The Chronic’ came out in 1992 … ‘2001’ came out in 1999
