Is it just me or does Common’s music just seem….. bland now?

I went back and listened to that new album from him and Pete Rock again and for some reason it was just alright

Like, it’s good when you compare it to the trash of today of course but judging it by Common’s best work, it’s just alright or average to me

I was listening to The Roots’ song Hurricane earlier tonight when I was out running errands and when you listen to Common’s verse on that versus to how he sounds on his new album and even previous albums, he just sounds like he’s coasting and nothing really giving it his best or like he lacks that edge he use to have

Anybody else think this too or is just me?

If you listen to THIS and think “bland” then you are a scion of Satan

It’s not that it’s bad and Lord knows it’s better than what most of these younger rappers make these days but when you compare it to Common’s album One Day It’ll Make Sense and Life Water For Chocolate, it’s pale in comparison

Funny how Common was beefing with Cube back in the days and then he became the same Ice Cube aka choosing Hollywood films (mostly mediocre) over his rapping. Both him and Cube lost their passion in rapping soon as them Hollywood checks came in and never made a truly great album again.

Bro was legit for like 15 years and then he was like "fukk it, I wanna do some Kung Fu shyt with Keanu Reeves" :mjlol:

There are plenty of examples where rappers did movies but still continued making great music, like Ice-T, LL Cool J, etc. but Common? You compare Be that came out in 2005 and then Universal Mind Control that came out three years later....

LL just dropped his best album in 25 years at 56, 40 years into his career, and he hasn't been hurting for bread since 16.
Actually it's his best album in 22 years. 10 was a solid album. Common just also dropped his best album in a while, but not 22 years. Even though this is LL's best album in since 2002, and it's a good album, it's still not better than Mr Smith, BAD, or Mama Said Knock you out. All albums in his 20s.

It's better than 10.

The point is age isn't an excuse. LL went and found some hunger.
