So you don't want local/state govts to enforce federal law... and yes, harboring illegal immigrants is 100% illegal

There are various cases going through the courts right now that have ruled in favor of sanctuary cities. The case you are citing is not sufficient proof.

Currently, anti-sanctuary city policy is blocked by the courts.

Justice Department asks SCOTUS to lift nationwide block on anti-sanctuary-city policy

agency that enforces immigration law

But you are pro immigration law enforcement. By who exactly?

I'd imagine the FBI, DEA, and other federal law enforcement agencies could handle the task.

But being simple, I suppose we could simply operate under a pre 1996 immigration policy - - Back when America was great.

Or Pre 9/11 and DHS. I generally oppose the implementation of a police state and that's what DHs.

Fun fact:

The ICE budget is higher than all federal law enforcement agencies combined.

We've spent over 200bn on it since it's creation and people don't seem to be satisfied with the results. It's a poorly run money pit and that money could be used elsewhere.

This is not a ruling in favor of sanctuary cities; it's a ruling in favor of the DoJ not using funding as a way to punish them. This is hardly an invitation from the SCOTUS to skirt immigration law, which is what sanctuary cities do.

I don't know what happened before 1996, but I do know that the old federal agency that specialized in immigration law enforcement, INS, was rolled into ICE, along with various other immigration and border security federal agencies. They centralized all of them under one roof after 9/11 to help their effectiveness and avoid waste/overlap.

Being that there are an estimated 12.5 million illegal immigrants in the US, with more still looking to come in, I'm not surprised that we are spending a lot of money on enforcing immigration law.

Just think; if the govt had done its job and enforced immigration law on the books over the last ~25 years, we wouldn't have to spend that money at all

Sanctuary cities don't devote their resources to do the work of the federal government. Immigration and deportation isn't the job of the local police. FBI agents don't pull citizens over for speeding or inform the local PD someone is speeding if they see it. Seems fair to me. :manny:

That's backwards. The old agency INS was SPLIT into 3 different agencies under homeland security:
  • UCIS
  • USCBP
  • ICe
Since then the cost has ballooned substantially. ICE makes up roughtly 50% of Homeland Securities budget. :scusthov:

And we've come full circle. What immigration law hasn't been enforced? The same mechanisms have been in place for generations. :sas2:

You said sanctuary cities, but they don't stop ICE from deporting illegal immigrants. :sas1:

anyway @GinaThatAintNoDamnPuppy! , good talk. I get where you're coming from, but I don't see the open borders movement nonsense that's been running from the right for the last 10 years. Obama actually increased ICE spending and employment. And was big on deportations, but he was considered weak because he didn't want to close the borders for refugees/assylum seekers and wanted to provide a path for citizenship for dreamers.

Sanctuary cities go well beyond that. For law enforcement to be effective agencies have to work with each other. However LEOs in sanctuary cities often flat out refuse to work with ICE, witholding names, and releasing criminals before ICE can determine their status.

Just because a mechanism is in place doesn't mean it's being enforced or deployed effectively. How else do you explain the 12 million illegal immigrants in the US?

And sanctuary cities don't have to stop ICE from deporting anybody to thwart the enforcement of immigration law.

All this yadda yadda and you still haven't explained what you'd like to replace ICE with, and why............

Well the left isn't afraid to change their stance to protect people they like. And I think a lot of people just didn't know Obama was deporting a lot... plus a big part of his supposed deportation surge came from a change in how deportations were counted (i.e. they began to add people turned away at the border)

There is definitely a general sentiment that anything limiting immigration = bad on the left. I find it most peculiar that African Americans are so gung ho about it. Again the left shytted on the right for voting for Trump "against their own interests" but want black people to help them relax immigration to let in more competition :jbhmm:

And again I think we need to do something about the refugee crisis in Central America.... but opening our borders is not the wave

No, it's not meaningless. But, like most words in the American political conversation, it's mostly used by people who have little idea what they're talking about. Just like "Socialism" is meaningless in the American political conversation. "Progressive", "Liberal", "Conservative": all words used generally by uninformed people pretending like they've done the work to be informed when really all they've done is scroll through their twitter feed and watched their preferred TV news personality each night.
yep, how times change

Dont do this @88m3

You wouldn't get this bolo on a podcast, let alone face to face. Your voice lacks bass and confidence. Don't let the internet pump you up like Joe Budden friend.

Congrats on becoming the left wing analog of the right wing trolls you have branded the enemy. You are literally no better than a MAGA hat rocker.

There's nothing wrong with my voice. I live an amazing life and do what I want when I want.

Apparently your midlife crisis is turning into a conservative. How fukking pathetic is that?

Maybe you think conservatism will make up for lacking masculinity?

Good luck with your transition into twism

See, here you go with more personal insults, because you can't stand behind your POV on anything logical or rational.

How great can your life be that you log on here every day to call anyone who doesn't buy into your limousine liberalism a Nazi? :wtf:

Stand behind my POV? Sorry your both sides argument isn't even remotely moving and is frankly tired and old.

It's not a bother to confront white supremacy and conservatives. Sorry you gave up.

I've made a few bands and I'm at my second home right now on vacation but whatever right? I'll probably have a swim in the lake and have dinner at a relais chateaux. It's boring.

Keep fighting the fights worth fighting, Brother.

All the more reason your continued crusade here is strange. I guess when privilege strips your life of all purpose you have to half heartedly latch on to a cause to justify your own existence :sadcam:

Globalist means Jew

If you run into someone spouting "globalist", "sjw", "libruhl", etc., know they are a red pill fakkit and general terrible person. Steer clear.
