I had an epiphany last night while waiting for my food. Place closes at 11pm
It’s about 10:40
The only ppl in the building, is the employee, me, an older breh, and a brehette outside waiting in her
I obviously don’t interact with her since I waited inside, and me and older breh said a few words then continue to be on our phones the whole time.
Then it hit me. What if there were no cell phones like how it used to be? We would either sat in silence and boredom or made small talk like back in the days. However my question is, would that really be a better option ?
A lot of older ppl act like no one interacts with each other anymore, it’s ruining society etc ..
For one, that’s grossly over estimated. And for two, let’s grant the argument. Let’s say no one does interact anymore, is thats really a big deal. What would have really been gained by two strangers at Pizza Hut making small talk for 10 minutes at 11pm?
What is to be gained by small talk period? When I look at ppl who champion the old days , I don’t see them being any better or worse at communicating than let’s say someone in GenZ. It’s some who are social awkward some who are extremely charismatic then some who are everything in between
To sum it up, I no longer believe ppl choosing to be on their phone instead of making small talk with everyone matters nor does it cause more ppl to become social awkward or whatever they claim.
